Google Shopping Retiring Promo Text.

On 30th September 2015 Google are retiring the promotional text messages in AdWords.

Promotext Promotional text is used to highlight any special offers you may have or key selling points. They have been with us since before Google Shopping became a paid-for platform and currently appear in ads when you hover over them like in the example at left.

Google Shopping has been displaying price drop information on ads for several months and will be showing more information such as free delivery. To replace the promotional text Google will be displaying these automatic promotional details on your products more often.

There is no action required in AdWords to make this change and to get the most out of your Shopping Ads, Merchant promotions are highly recommended.

Merchant promotions were launched over a year ago without much fanfare. It is an excellent way of displaying your promotions.

Offers are set up through the Merchant Centre and your feed. The promotions have to be of monetary off product value and/or use a coupon code. For example:

Spend £100 Get 10% off
Buy One Get One Free

Free Delivery with Coupon FD2015 would be acceptable but Free Delivery Over £100 would not be because this is seen to be a general site promotion and isn’t offering anything unique.
